As a Principal Instrumentation Engineer – FPSO, your responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring valve selection considers cost, constructability, operability, and maintainability.
  • Specifying and selecting valves such as ball, gate, globe, check, and emergency shutdown valves based on process requirements and technical standards.
  • Ensuring compliance with industry regulations, classification requirements, and standards like API 6A, API 6D, API 609, API 607, NORSOK M-710, ISO 23936, and ASME.
  • Preparing and reviewing technical datasheets, material selection, and pressure-temperature ratings while analyzing Rapid Gas Decompression (RGD) effects in valves and elastomers.
  • Assisting in designing and modifying valve products in collaboration with technical authorities.
  • Performing calculations for flow rates, pressure drops, and material compatibility.
  • Working with instrumentation, process, mechanical, and piping teams to ensure proper valve integration into systems.
  • Ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards, including SIL requirements, and understanding IEC 61511 and 61508 standards.
  • Handling tasks related to performance standards for valves and instrumentation.
  • Supporting HAZOP and risk assessment studies to enhance valve performance and reliability.
  • Staying updated on industry regulations and technological advancements.
  • Supervising Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and hydrostatic testing.
  • Ensuring adherence to quality assurance (QA/QC) processes and troubleshooting valve failures, recommending corrective actions such as Partial Stroke and Staggered Blowdown Tests.
  • Assisting the supply chain in valve selection and procurement strategy while qualifying new valve vendors.
  • Working with manufacturers and suppliers to assess technical proposals and ensure product quality.
  • Reviewing vendor documentation, technical drawings, and test reports for compliance.
  • Providing technical support for valve maintenance, repair, and refurbishment in Brownfield projects.
  • Developing preventive maintenance plans, conducting failure analysis, and implementing reliability improvements for critical valve applications.
  • Mentoring and guiding junior valve engineers across multiple locations.
  • Contributing to engineering and technical standards for valve selection, design, and evaluation.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • 8+ years of experience in Instrumentation Valve Engineering within upstream Oil & Gas.
  • In-depth knowledge of API 6A, API 6D, and ISO actuator standards.
  • Expertise in pressure relief devices, adhering to API and ASME BPVC.
  • Strong foundation in control valve systems, with expertise in ISO and IEC standards.
  • Proficiency in control valve calculations, preferably using CONVAL.
  • Advanced skills in SmartPlant Instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of Aveva Engineering is a plus.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and creative problem solver.
  • Strong communication skills in English (verbal and written).
  • Proficient in MS Office and willing to travel as needed.
  • A collaborative team player and safety-conscious professional.
